Couponing for Beginners
This post contains affiliate links, please read our Affiliate Disclosure hereOne of the most popular questions we get in our group is “How do I start couponing?”. So, I wanted to take some time to help you figure it out. First and most importantly, you need to take the time to READ! Do some research and gain some knowledge. It will make couponing so much easier for you! Taking the time to read and learn will pay off for you, if you put in the effort to learn.
The first step to beginning to coupon is gathering your coupons! You can get coupons from many places! I’m going to list the places you can get coupons below!
- Printable Coupons!– You can get and print coupons right from your own computer! Here are the best websites to print your coupons from
A) Coupons
B) Red Plum
C) Smart Source
D) Hopster
2. Newpapers! They are typically in your Sunday paper. I usually buy two newspapers for my family of three. I typically recommend buying one newspaper per family member.
3. Digital Coupons: Kroger has some awesome digital coupons, and they are a great way to get some coupons without a lot of work.
Here are the answers to some popular questions about digital coupons. You CANNOT stack a digital coupon and a manufacturer coupon! MOST digital coupons can only used once on ONE product. They are some select coupons that can be used up to 5 times in the same transaction. These coupons clearly state that they can be used up to 5 times in ONE transaction. These coupons are called “Super Savers” or “5X” coupons.
4. Clipping Services: I will list the services that I recommend
A) Insert Insanity
B) SundayCouponInserts
C) CouponFleaMarket
D) Klip2Save
5) Top Couponing Apps:
A) Kroger App
B) Ibotta
C) Checkout51
D) Flipp App
6) Stacking Coupon
A) What is coupon stacking? Coupon Stacking is using a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon at the same time to save the most. At Kroger you can stack coupons. However, YOU CANNOT stack digital coupons. This includes the 5X coupons! You CANNOT use TWO manufacturer coupons on the same item.
7) Coupon Lingo
8) How do I use my coupons?
A) Start by using coupons on the items that you buy on a regular basis. To get the best deal match-up that coupon with the item on sale. Slowly build a small stockpile. Building a small stockpile will allow you only buy items that are on sale so that you save the most money. If you aren’t sure where to start visit our Facebook Page here, and look for my weekly Facebook Live videos every Wednesday at noon EST. I will be there to answer your questions and tell you all the best deals for the week.
Now, I’ve helped to find your coupons so what do you do with them?
The MOST important thing I want to remember is you are not going to save 85% off your grocery bill instantly or every week! It takes time to build up to the lower costs. Every week, take the best deals or those items that are at their best prices and buy one or two extra of them. And, slowly you build up the things you need so that you can wait and only buy them on sale. You don’t want to spend a large amount of money out of pocket to build up with your stock. So, slowly buy a few extra things. A little personal note about me, is that I don’t have a large stockpile. I still keep my costs down without a huge stockpile, just by shopping sales and using coupons without a huge stockpile.
So every week, take the time to look over the deals that we post and our match-ups and buy the best deals from those sales! You can find our deals on our homepage here and our match-ups here! You can also check out our Facebook Group and see what others are buying!
Another word of advice I have for you is to make sure that you read your coupons carefully! And, please don’t listen to people that tell you about “balanced couponing” or “family couponing” or things like that. “Balanced couponing” is just a way of saying that I know I am committing coupon fraud but I don’t want to say it! Please take the time to learn to use your coupons like they are meant to be used! Never hesitate to ask me questions! You can comment below with your questions or even email me directly to ask at wendy at krogercouponing.com (replace at with @ and take out the spaces)! You can also friend me on Facebook and message me there!
